A Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment and 2,000 lashes for hundreds of atheist posts on Twitter, media reported. The 28-year-old man, whose name has not been disclosed, is said to have admitted his atheist views and refused to repent, saying the tweets reflect his beliefs and that he has the right to express them.

The report’s release further validates the importance of a recent plea from a U.S. government panel offering to divide the lashes amongst themselves. The panel includes Christian, Muslim and Jewish members, each willing to take 100 of Badawi’s 1,000 lashings sentence.

Judge in Sudan Confirms Death Sentence, Whipping, for Pregnant Christian Woman

A judge in Sudan today (May 15) confirmed the death sentence for “apostasy” (leaving Islam) for a pregnant Christian woman after she refused to recant, sources said.

After her conviction on April 30, Judge Abaas Al Khalifa had given Meriam Yahia Ibrahim 15 days to recant or be executed, with the ultimatum repeated at her hearing on Sunday (May 11). He also confirmed the sentence of 100 lashes for having sex with her husband, considered illicit in Islam because he is a Christian.

No condemnation of the brutal sentence has been issued by any member of the U.S Congress or the White House.
