Flags In – A Reminder Of The First Amendment

May 23rd, 2014 | By

This Memorial Day, the significance of the First Amendment is not lost on me. As I look out over the 260,000 flags on grave markers at Arlington National Cemetery, I am reminded of those who won these freedoms for us. The grave markers at Arlington are only a small representation of the thousands and thousands of veterans’ grave markers that exist across this nation. These grave markers often represent men and women who gave their lives in service of our nation.

Congressmen: The Prize Of Citizenship

“[F]reedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it and then hand it to them with the well taught lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and I don’t do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free.”

God bless us, every one

“Alliance Defending Freedom issued a letter Wednesday to more than 13,000 school districts nationwide to explain constitutional protections for religious Christmas carols that some districts have censored due to misinterpretations of the First Amendment. Mr. Speaker, religious freedom is a fundamental human right—a right which is guaranteed by the First Amendment. Many of America’s earliest settlers came to her shores seeking religious freedom. As individuals around the world face persecution because of their religious beliefs, America has stood as the beacon for the importance of protecting the ability to freely exercise religious beliefs without fear of intimidation, reprisal, or harm.

“Today [November 6] the Supreme Court considered a vital question: under what circumstances may a legislative body begin its sessions with prayer?  Our nation can trace the time-honored tradition of opening legislative sessions with prayer back to the First Continental Congress.  However, today the Court was asked to make a radical, unwarranted departure from the Constitution.

Congressman Forbes Lauds Obamacare Religious Freedom Ruling

Nov 4th, 2013 | By

“Today, the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia recognized the heavy burden that the HHS mandate places on the First Amendment freedoms of America’s business owners.  The First Amendment guarantees that we have freedom to live our lives according to our religious beliefs and moral convictions, free from government coercion.”

In God We Trust

A New York federal district court has dismissed a challenge to the inclusion of our national motto, “In God We Trust,” on United States currency.  Forty-one Members of the House of Representatives signed an amicus curiae brief in May, filed by the American Center for Law and Justice and the American Catholic Lawyers Association supporting the motto.

Congressman Randy Forbes Opposes Syria Strike

Sep 6th, 2013 | By

I have no intention of voting to authorize American intervention in Syria. While the President’s decision to seek congressional authorization for military involvement in Syria shows a regard for the Constitution that has been noticeably absent for much of his presidency, I remain strongly opposed to an action that I believe will in no way contribute to America’s national security interests.
