Fighters of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group have released another 37 Assyrian Christians who had been kidnapped nine months ago, but hundreds of other Christian hostages remain detained, Christians confirmed Friday, November 20.

Islamic State militants have released a video of how they shot to death three Christian hostages and threatened to execute hundreds more of the Syrian Christian minority abducted in February. In the recently released Islamic State execution video the three Assyrian men, crouched in orange jumpsuits, are forced to state their Christian faith and names before being shot in the back of the head.

Syrian Christians face persecution by Islamic State and other groups, church sources and activists say.

Dozens of Christian families remained missing Saturday, August 8, after Islamic State militants seized their town in central Syria this week, the Syrian Orthodox Church said. Church sources and activists said hundreds were kidnapped when the Islamic State invaded the isolated oasis town of Qariyatain in Homs Province this week and routed the Syrian Army.

ISIS forces are entering the city and looking to carry out a mass ethno-religious slaughter, humanitarian groups said, warning that the world still has not provided an adequate response.
