Deadly attacks in Aleppo intensify.

Earlier this week, Religious Freedom Coalition posted an article on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Aleppo after a school was bombed. However, much of the violence that happens on the Western side of the city of Aleppo receives almost no media attention. This is due in part to the fact that this violence is caused by the rebel groups, many of which are backed by the US. RT reports that five children were killed on the western side, the government controlled side, of Aleppo on Thursday. But the attack once again barely received attention from major news sources.

RT reports:

“A school and adjacent bus stop were hit by mortar shells in the Al-Suleymaniya neighborhood of Aleppo. Two children died on the spot and three others later in the hospital.

“Anxious relatives and parents cried and shouted and cursed the rebels and their backers,” RT’s Murad Gazdiev reported from the Al Razi Hospital, where the victims were taken.

“They were just schoolchildren, my pupils,” their teacher told RT.”

“RT asked several international human rights organizations to comment on the current situation there. The response was very limited.

“What concerns us is that all parties to the conflict are committing violations against children,” Juliette Touma, UNICEF spokesperson for the Middle East and North Africa said. “Violations against children in Syria should come to an end.”

“Unfortunately, we don’t have enough information about this specific attack (or attacks on West Aleppo more broadly at this stage),” Human Rights Watch said in a written response.”

When RT reached out to US State Department spokesman Mark Toner about the attack on Thursday, Toner said he was not aware of the incident.

The US has continually promised to separate the rebels they fund from terrorist organizations. However, in an interview, an Al-Nusra commander confirmed that the group continues to receive outside support, including American weapons. There is reason to believe that US backed rebels are fighting alongside Al-Nusra.
