Obama-UN-ISIS-2This week Congress is preparing to potentially override the veto President Obama is threatening for The Justice Against Sponsors of Terror Act, S. 2040.

Obama is threatening to veto the bill because he believes it could damage our very complicated relationship with the Saudi government and that it will upset diplomatic immunity given to sovereign states and subject U.S. citizens, companies and diplomats to similar suits in other countries.

Democrats in Congress are insisting Obama’s veto will have no effect on the upcoming presidential election despite the fact that Republicans are hoping Obama’s opposition to the bill will weaken Hillary Clinton’s numbers in the polls.

The bill, which was passed by both chambers of Congress on the fifteenth anniversary of September 11, would allow families of the victims of the September 11 attacks to sue the Saudi Arabian government for supporting the hijackers.
