Incredibly, less than 12 years after al-Qaida fighters from Saudi Arabia flew civilian aircraft into two World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon, the United States is supporting an al-Qaida-backed insurgency in Syria, the goal of which is to create an Islamic state free of Christians. In Washington, D.C., there is bipartisan support for the fighters waging the war to rid Syria of its secular government. Not only does the Democratic president, Barack Obama, support the Islamic “rebels,” but so do hawkish Republican senators such as John McCain and Lindsay Graham.

Syrian rebels beheaded a Christian man and fed his body to dogs, according to a nun who says the West is ignoring atrocities committed by Islamic extremists.

The nun said taxi driver Andrei Arbashe, 38, was kidnapped after his brother was heard complaining that fighters against the ruling regime behaved like bandits. She said his headless corpse was found by the side of the road, surrounded by hungry dogs. He had recently married and was soon to be a father.

The majority of attacks on Christian Copts in Egypt and Christians in Pakistan are also under reported. Most Muslim attacks on Christians in Nigeria and Buddhists in Thailand also go unreported.

My message to Romney and Obama: Making madmen rich does not make them moderate; it only allows them to buy better weapons. The idea of a debt-ridden nation such as ours sending money to the wealthy oil nations of the Middle East to make them “moderate” is the most absurd thought process ever.

The central point of The Road to Serfdom is that it is impossible to have both central planning and individual freedoms. We can see this playing out today; for instance, a small business owned by a Roman Catholic family in Denver refused to buy the federally mandated health insurance covering birth control, the morning after pill and sterilization. The Obama Justice Department told the family that they could either provide the insurance as ordered by the government, or shut down the business. The case is still in the courts. Then there is the ongoing saga of Chick-fil-A.
