Two leading Christian legislators in the European Parliament (EP) have urged the European Union and Pope Francis to help free a Christian mother, whose death sentence for “blasphemy” was upheld by a Pakistani court. Asia Bibi, 50, had appealed before the Lahore High Court against the ruling in which she was found guilty of insulting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, but the court rejected her appeal Thursday, October 19.

An appeals court in Pakistan upheld a death sentence against a devoted Christian mother for “blasphemy” against Islam, sparking calls for prayers amid concerns a Supreme Court case may take years.
Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian, sits on death row for blasphemy. She says it all began when she drew water from a Muslim well. As she was filling her bowl with water, a crowd formed chanting, “Death! Death to the Christian!”
She pleaded for her life.
She was pelted with stones, punched in the face and dragged through the streets. The local Imam finally intervened only to say, “If you don’t want to die, you must convert to Islam.”
A senior advocacy official remained concern Saturday, April 12, that a Pakistani appeals court will confirm the death sentence of Christian woman Asia Bibi, who has been charged with blasphemy against Islam. “Given the recent decisions made against people charged under the blasphemy law, it is not looking likely that the judgment against Asia will be favorable,” said Nasir Saeed, a director of the Center for Legal Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS), which supports the Christian.
Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five, sentenced to death on accusations of blasphemy was shifted to a new jail without notification to her lawyer. Asia Bibi’s crime was drinking from a water well making it unclean for Muslim women as Christian infidels are prohibited to touch eating or drinking utensils of Muslims in Pakistan.

Another Christian dies in a Pakistani jail!. Shaukat Ali, 35, was imprisoned in 2007 under Pakistan’s blasphemy charges. He was among several Christians held in Pakistan, including Asia Bibi, held in prison for years on this charge with out trial. His family rejected the claims of jail and police authorities of a “sudden illness.”
