30cadc31-gulf-states-isisEarlier this week, WikiLeaks released archives of Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton’s emails. Yesterday, Clinton’s campaign tried to do damage control on an email that was leaked where Clinton, the former Secretary of State, accused the Saudi and Qarati governments of secretly funding ISIS.

The email was sent on August 17, 2014 to John Podesta, then White House counselor and now her current campaign chairman, and detailed an eight-point plan to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Part of Clinton’s plan was to support Kurdish forces on the ground with U.S. military advisers.

In the email, Clinton wrote: “While this military/para-military operation is moving forward, we need to use our diplomatic and more traditional intelligence assets to bring pressure of the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIL and other radical Sunni groups in the region… This effort will be enhanced by the stepped up commitment in the [Kurdish Regional Government]. The Qaratis and Saudis will be put in a positions of balancing policy between their ongoing competition to dominate the Sunni world and the consequences of serious U.S. pressure.”

Qatar has given between $1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation while Saudi Arabia has donated upwards of$25 million to the Foundation.

The Daily Caller contacted the Clinton campaign about whether the Clinton Foundation will return donations from the two countries that, in her own words, fund ISIS. They also contacted the campaign to ask if Clinton were elected, would she cede military support to the two nations. The campaign has not replied to either question.
