Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) calls the idea of atheist chaplains as “nonsense.”

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) is working to create an amendment to the defense budget bill that will prevent any atheist or humanist chaplains in the military.

According to Fleming: When it comes to the idea of an atheist chaplain, which is an oxymoron — it’s self-contradictory — what you’re really doing is now saying that we’re going to replace true chaplains with non-chaplain chaplains. It’s just total nonsense, the idea of having a chaplain who is an atheist.

This issue was brought to the forefront after Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) tried to get an amendment passed in the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act that would permit non-theist humanist and atheist chaplains to join the Armed Forces of the United States.

Rep. Fleming seeks an amendment that requires every chaplain to have a specific deist faith.

William J Murray, chairman of the Washington, DC based Religious Freedom Coalition noted, Congressman Fleming is correct in cutting off funding for the insipid idea of creating posts in the military for atheist chaplain.

This is nothing more than an attempt by those who have a hatred in their heart for God to have yet another public forum to attempt to belittle Christian and Jewish believers. Why would the military want to give officer grade pay to someone who proclaims that no one should believe anything.
