Editors Note: This is an AP story in the Wall Street Journal that mentions as a side note that Turkish aircraft had been used to kill Kurdish “rebels.” The story does not mention that the “rebels” are Turkish citizens and that Turkey had used air power against its own people. Turkey buys its fighter jets from the EU and the USA. Not a problem then to use them to kill “rebels.” No complaints from Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton of John McCain. Why? The are two busy trying to stop Syria from using air power to kill Al Qaeda fighters. Double standard by the EU, the USA and the media.
WSJ – ANKARA, Turkey—Turkey’s security forces have killed as many as 115 Kurdish rebels during a major security offensive over the past two weeks, the country’s interior minister said Sunday.
Idris Naim Sahin said the rebels were killed in an airpower-backed offensive near the town of Semdinli, in Hakkari province, which sits on the border with Iraq. He said the offensive began on July 23.
Mr. Sahin provided few other details on the continuing operation but said the security forces were trying to block the rebels’ escape routes into northern Iraq.
Private NTV television said earlier that as many as 2,000 troops were taking part in the offensive and that public access to some roads in the area were blocked. Read more
